The arrondissement of Grasse is like a special district or area in France. It's part of the Alpes-Maritimes department, which is in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The main town, or capital, of this district is Grasse, famous for its perfumes!

A Look Back in Time

When the Alpes-Maritimes department was first created in 1793, Grasse was actually part of a different department called Var. Later, in 1860, Grasse became its own arrondissement within the Alpes-Maritimes department.

Where is Grasse?

The Grasse arrondissement is located in the southern part of the Alpes-Maritimes department. It shares borders with the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department to the north and the Nice arrondissement to the east. To the south, it meets the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, and to the west, it borders the Var department.

Even though it's the smaller of the two arrondissements in the department, covering about 1,231 square kilometers (475 square miles), it has a lot of people! In 2014, over 560,000 people lived there.
