The arrondissement of Sens is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Yonne département in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Its capital is the city of Sens.
History
When the Yonne was created on 17 February 1800, the arrondissement of Sens was part of that original department.
Geography
The arrondissement of Sens is bordered to the northeast and east by the Aube (Champagne-Ardenne) department, to the south by the arrondissement of Auxerre, to the west by the Loiret (Centre-Val de Loire) department and to the northwest by the Seine-et-Marne (Île-de-France) department.
It is the northernmost of the arrondissements of the department, with an area of 1,703.6 km2 (658 sq mi), the smallest in area of the department. It has 114,298 inhabitants and its population density of 67.1 inhabitants/km².
