Art museum facts for kids
An art museum is a special place where amazing works of art are shown for everyone to enjoy. You'll usually see beautiful paintings, but art museums also display sculptures, photographs, and many other kinds of visual art. Most art museums are open to the public, meaning anyone can visit them. Some, however, are private.
What makes an art museum different from other art galleries is that the museum actually owns the artworks it shows. Art museums have special staff called "curators." These curators are experts in art. They help choose, care for, and display the art. Art museums are great places to learn about the history of art. For example, in the United States, there are about 700 art museums and galleries at universities.
