Aru, also known as Adav in the Kashmiri tongue, is a beautiful village and a popular tourist spot. It is located in the Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The village is about 53 kilometers (33 miles) from Anantnag city. It is also around 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) from Pahalgam. Aru sits on the left bank of the Aru River, which flows into the Lidder River.

Aru is famous for its amazing natural beauty. You can see stunning meadows, clear lakes, and tall mountains here. It is also a starting point for exciting trekking trips. Trekkers often begin their journeys to places like the Kolhoi Glacier and the Tarsar-Marsar lakes from Aru.

Other popular treks from Aru lead to the Tarsar-Marsar lakes. You can also trek to Lidderwat and the beautiful Vishansar-Kishansar lakes. There are many places to stay in Aru, including hotels, restaurants, and cozy huts.

Overa-Aru Biosphere Reserve

The Overa-Aru Biosphere Reserve is a special protected area. It is located about 76 kilometers (47 miles) from Srinagar, the state capital. This reserve is a Wildlife sanctuary. It covers a large area of 511 square kilometers (197 square miles).

The land in the reserve goes from 3,000 meters (9,843 feet) to 5,425 meters (17,799 feet) above sea level. This reserve is important because it protects many rare and endangered animals and plants. It helps keep the natural environment safe for these species.
