Asclepias purpurascens is also known as the purple milkweed. It is a type of milkweed plant that grows in North America. Another plant, Asclepias cordifolia, is sometimes also called purple milkweed.
Purple milkweed is part of a larger plant family called Apocynaceae. Its flowers bloom from June to July. They are a beautiful pink-purple color.
Where Purple Milkweed Grows
You can find purple milkweed in open, grassy areas. These include savannas, prairies, and meadows.
This plant likes to grow in clay or sandy soil. It prefers sunny or partly shaded spots. Purple milkweed can grow quite tall, usually between 0.6 to 1.2 meters (2–4 feet) high.
