The Ashland Harbor Breakwater lighthouse, also known as Ashland Breakwater Lighthouse, is an active lighthouse in Ashland, Wisconsin, USA. It stands in Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior. The U.S. Coast Guard owns and manages this lighthouse. It's located at the end of a long, detached breakwater, which helps create a safe harbor for boats.

About the Ashland Lighthouse

The Ashland Harbor Breakwater Lighthouse was built in 1915. It helps guide ships safely into the harbor. Lighthouses are very important for boats, especially at night or in bad weather.

Where is it located?

This lighthouse is in Ashland County, Wisconsin. It sits in Chequamegon Bay, which is part of Lake Superior. The lighthouse is at the end of a long structure called a breakwater. A breakwater is like a wall built in the water. It protects the harbor from strong waves.

What does it look like?

The Ashland Lighthouse is 58 feet (about 17.6 meters) tall. It has a white tower with a red cap on top. The light itself is 60 feet (about 18.3 meters) above the water. It uses a special plastic lens that is powered by the sun. The light flashes white every 6 seconds and can be seen up to 9 nautical miles away.

Who lived there?

In the past, a lighthouse keeper lived at the lighthouse to make sure the light was always working. The Ashland Lighthouse had living areas on its second and third floors. There was also a separate house for the keeper and a boathouse built in 1916. These buildings are about 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) from the lighthouse itself.
