Ashley is a small town, called a borough, in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. It is located about 1 mile (1.6 km) from Wilkes-Barre. In 2020, about 2,588 people lived there.

History of Ashley
Ashley was first settled by people in 1830. Forty years later, in 1870, it officially became a borough. It was once a very busy coal mining town. Many people worked in the coal mines and processing plants.
The town's population grew a lot because of coal. It reached its largest population of 7,039 people in 1930. The Huber Breaker was a big building built in 1939 to process coal. It stopped working in 1976 and was taken down in 2014.
Geography and Location
Ashley is located at coordinates 41°12′51″N 75°53′58″W. The U.S. Census Bureau says the borough covers about 0.9 square miles (2.4 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the borough.
Most of the homes and businesses in Ashley are in the northern and western parts of the town. Hanover Township completely surrounds Ashley. Students in Ashley attend schools in the Hanover Area School District.

Major roads like Interstate 81 and Pennsylvania Route 309 pass through the eastern and southern parts of Ashley. You can also get around using bus route 13, which is run by the NEPTA.
