Sarah Ashley Longshore is an American painter and business owner famous for her bright and bold pop art. Pop art is a style of art that gets its ideas from everyday life, like advertisements, celebrities, and popular culture.

Based in New York, Ashley owns the Longshore Studio Gallery in the SoHo neighborhood. Her artwork often explores themes of Hollywood glamour and American culture. She has been called one of the most daring voices in modern pop art.

Many famous people collect her art, including actresses Blake Lively, Salma Hayek, and Penélope Cruz, and football player Eli Manning.

From Alabama to Art

Ashley Longshore was born in Montgomery, Alabama. Her father, Spencer Longshore III, was the president of an advertising company. As a child, Ashley was very involved in the arts. She took lessons in many things, including dancing, theater, and piano.

After high school, she went to the University of Montana and earned a degree in English literature. During college, she took a break from her studies to focus on painting. Ashley is a self-taught artist, which means she learned how to paint on her own without formal art school training. She started by practicing and copying paintings by famous artists like Picasso. After building a collection of her work, she began showing it in local galleries in Montana.

A Career in Pop Art

Ashley's art career grew as she became known for her unique and colorful style. She has worked with many famous brands and people over the years.

Many well-known companies have asked Ashley to create art for them. In 2011, the fashion brand Chloé hired her to make a painting about its history. She has also worked with other major brands like Gucci, Maybelline, and even Porsche USA, for whom she created art used in city murals.

In 2018, she became the first female artist to have a solo exhibition at the famous New York luxury store, Bergdorf Goodman. Her art was featured in six of the store's large windows on Fifth Avenue.

Books and Other Projects

In 2017, Ashley released her first book, a humorous guide about living a bold and ambitious life. She has published other books since then, including one in 2024 filled with stories about birds.

She has also been a guest judge on the TV show Project Runway and has created special packaging for brands like Sprinkles Cupcakes. In 2021, she was the Artist-in-Residence at The Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

To support young artists, the Ashley Longshore Excellence in the Arts Award was started in 2022. It gives a $25,000 grant each year to students in visual arts, photography, and musical theater.

Ashley's art has been featured on the covers of magazines and in many art shows. One of her most famous collaborations was with her friend and client, actress Blake Lively. Ashley created art for Lively's lifestyle website, Preserve.

In 2015, her work was shown at the Cornell Museum in an exhibit called “Bling: Art That Shines.” The show included her large portraits of celebrities. That same year, she started Artgasm, a program that lets people buy her art directly by subscription.

In March 2019, she had a show at the Diane von Fürstenberg store in New York City. The exhibit celebrated Women's History Month and featured 37 paintings of important women that the fashion designer had commissioned.

More recently, Ashley has also created digital art called NFTs. She has released two collections of these digital artworks.

Personal Life

Ashley Longshore lives in New Orleans with her fiancé, Michael Smith.
