Ashtone Wayne Henry Morgan, born on February 9, 1991, is a Canadian former soccer player. He was known for playing as a left-back defender. Ashtone made history as the first player from the TFC Academy to join the Canadian national team.

Early Life and Soccer Start

Ashtone Morgan grew up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He went to Northern Secondary School. When he was younger, Ashtone played for the Toronto Lynx U-13 team. This team even traveled to England to play against youth teams from other big clubs. During that trip, Ashtone was a standout player. His skills caught the eye of clubs like Southampton.

Ashtone joined the TFC Academy when he was 16 years old in 2008. He played for the academy team in the Canadian Soccer League in 2009 and 2010.

He made his first professional appearance for Toronto FC on October 20, 2010. This was in a CONCACAF Champions League game against Árabe Unido from Panama. Even though he wasn't officially a professional player yet, Ashtone played very well. His performance helped Toronto win 1–0 and got him a lot of attention.

In early 2011, Ashtone was invited to train with Toronto FC's main team in Turkey. He was one of only four academy players to get this chance. He officially signed with Toronto FC on March 17, 2011. Ashtone played his first league game on March 26, 2011, against Portland. By the end of the 2011 season, he was a regular starter.

Ashtone became the main left-back for Toronto FC in the 2012 season. He even helped set up three goals in two games in June. The club was so impressed that they signed him to a long-term deal on July 5.

Later, another player named Justin Morrow joined the team. This meant Ashtone played less during the 2014 MLS season. He often played as a backup left-back. To get more playing time, he was loaned to Toronto FC II for the 2015 season. However, due to injuries on the main team, Ashtone quickly returned to play for Toronto FC. On May 2, 2015, he became the first player in Toronto FC history to play 100 games for the club. This was a big achievement!

Ashtone missed most of the 2016 season because of an injury. But he was still excited when Toronto FC reached the 2016 MLS Cup, which was their most successful season ever. He re-signed with the team for the 2017 season. After nine seasons, Toronto FC decided not to renew his contract for the 2020 season.

Time with Real Salt Lake

On January 21, 2020, Ashtone signed with Real Salt Lake. He played for them during the 2020 and 2021 seasons. In December 2021, Real Salt Lake decided not to keep him on their team.

Playing for Forge FC

On February 1, 2022, Ashtone joined Forge FC, a team in the Canadian Premier League. He played his first game for Forge on February 16 in a 2022 CONCACAF Champions League match. Ashtone re-signed with Forge FC for the 2023 season.

Ashtone Morgan officially retired from playing professional soccer on July 31, 2023.

International Career

Ashtone Morgan played for several Canadian youth teams, including the U-16 and U-20 squads. In late September 2011, he was called up to the Canadian men's national team for the first time. This was for two FIFA World Cup qualifying games. This made him the first player from the TFC Academy to join the senior national team.

Ashtone made his debut for Canada against Saint Lucia. He came into the game as a substitute and even got an assist, helping to set up a goal. He later earned his first start for the national team against Saint Kitts and Nevis. On December 13, 2011, Ashtone was named the Canadian U-20 Player of the Year.

He was also part of Canada's squad for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
