Ashwini Kumar Chopra (born June 11, 1956 – died January 18, 2020) was an important journalist and politician from India. He was the editor of the famous newspaper, Punjab Kesari, in Delhi.
He was also a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Lok Sabha, which is like one of the main parts of India's parliament. He was elected from a place called Karnal as a candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Ashwini Kumar Chopra came from a family of journalists who owned a group of newspapers called Hindsamachar. During a difficult time in Punjab when there was a lot of unrest, his grandfather and father bravely stood up for peace. Because of their courage, the Punjab Kesari newspaper is often called the "newspaper of brave journalists."

Education and Early Journalism
Ashwini Kumar Chopra studied a lot to become a journalist. First, he graduated from Guru Nanak Dev University. Then, he earned a master's degree in Journalism from Punjab University.
He wanted to learn even more about journalism, so he went to the University of California, Berkeley in the USA for another master's degree. While he was in the USA, he worked for a newspaper called the San Francisco Chronicle for about six months. Later, he also worked with The Times Group in Delhi, India. His grandfather and father guided him into the world of journalism.
Cricketing Career
Before he became a full-time journalist, Ashwini Kumar Chopra was a talented cricketer! He played cricket for the state of Punjab in a big tournament called the Ranji Trophy. He played 25 first-class matches between 1975 and 1980.
He was a type of bowler called a leg-spinner. People even thought he might play for the Indian national team between 1975 and 1977. One of his first big achievements in cricket was taking the wicket (getting out) of the famous cricketer Sunil Gavaskar in a match in 1975-76.
Political Career
Ashwini Kumar Chopra was well-known for his daily "Special Editorial" on the front page of his newspaper. These articles had strong and popular words.
In 2014, the BJP chose him to run for election from Karnal. He won the election by a very large number of votes and became a new Member of Parliament from Karnal.
