Asim Basu (Odia: ଅସୀମ ବସୁ) was a very talented person from India. He was a theatre artist, director, and actor. He was also an art director, a painter, and a playwright (someone who writes plays). Asim Basu was famous for creating amazing sets for Ollywood movies. He also designed many Odia book covers and movie posters.

Early Life and Theatre Beginnings
Asim Basu was born in 1935. His parents were Motilal Basu and Bijanbala Basu. He grew up in Kakhada village, which is in the Balasore district.
When he was a college student in Kolkata, he got a chance to work with the famous actor Utpal Dutt. This happened at the Minerva Theatre, Kolkata. There, Asim Basu's skills in acting, directing, and designing theatre stages really grew. Later, he returned to Odisha. He then started his own theatre group called "Rupakar".
His Amazing Career
Asim Basu started his career as a director with a play called 'Duiti Surya Dagdha Phula Ku Nei'. He directed about 200 plays during his life. He was also a stage designer for more than 500 plays. This means he created the look and feel of the stage for many shows.
He also worked as an art director for several Odia films. An art director helps decide the overall visual style of a movie. Some of the films he worked on include Chha Mana Atha Guntha, Indradhanura Chhai, and the Hindi film Shodh. Asim Basu also appeared as an actor in many TV films and movies. These included Chha Mana Atha Guntha, Jaga Balia, and Dadagiri.
Awards and Recognition
Asim Basu received several awards for his great work.
- In 1998, he was given the state Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. This award celebrates talented artists.
- He also received the Parampara Samman award in 2012.
Later Life and Passing
Asim Basu passed away on February 1, 2017. He was 81 years old. He died in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, due to a lung infection.
