Atlanta Soccer Club was a soccer team from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. It started in 2007 as Atlanta FC. Later, it became a 'reserve team' (a team for backup players) for the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2011. When the Silverbacks team stopped playing in 2016, this team used their name.

In 2019, the club changed its name to Atlanta SC. This was because they no longer had the right to use the Silverbacks name. The team's logo and colors were inspired by the peach, which is a symbol of Georgia. The Atlanta SC team played for two seasons before it stopped playing in 2020.

History of the Atlanta Soccer Club

How Atlanta FC Started

The team began in 2007 as Atlanta FC. It grew out of a successful youth team called Lawrenceville FC. This youth team had done very well in a big competition called the National Cup.

Around the same time, a league called the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) was looking for new teams. Atlanta FC joined this league in its first season. They quickly won their division, the NPSL Southeast Conference, in their first year. They later lost in the playoffs to another team.

Some players from Atlanta FC were very good. Ramiro Canovas was one of the best scorers in the league in 2008. Luis Sandoval and Robert Munilla were also chosen for the NPSL All-Star team.

In 2009, the team played in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, which is a big soccer tournament in the USA. They made it to the first round but lost to the Charleston Battery team.

Becoming the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves

On February 3, 2011, Atlanta FC teamed up with the Atlanta Silverbacks. The Silverbacks were a bigger, professional soccer team. Atlanta FC then changed its name to the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves. A 'reserve team' is like a training team for a main club.

During their first season as the Reserves, one of their goalkeepers, Eric Ati, was good enough to join the main Atlanta Silverbacks team. Another player, Kingsley Morgan, was named to the NPSL All-Star team. The team finished fourth in their league division that year.

The team took a break in 2013. But they came back in 2014 and finished second in their conference.

Playing as Atlanta Silverbacks FC

The main Atlanta Silverbacks team stopped playing at the end of 2015. This was because they couldn't find new owners. So, the reserve team was allowed to use the name "Atlanta Silverbacks FC."

They played for three seasons under this name. After that, they lost the right to use the Silverbacks name. This meant they had to change their name again.

The Final Years as Atlanta SC

In 2019, the team became Atlanta SC. They joined a new professional league called the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). This league is for Division III professional teams.

Atlanta SC played in the NISA fall season in 2020. They did not make it to the playoffs. The team then decided to stop playing before the next spring season began. They had planned to return later, but by January 2020, the club had officially stopped playing for good.
