Atsushi Kimura (木村 敦志, Kimura Atsushi, born May 1, 1984) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a goalkeeper. Kimura spent his entire professional career with Gamba Osaka, a famous Japanese football club.

Playing Career Highlights

Atsushi Kimura was born in Ibaraki, Osaka, Japan, on May 1, 1984. He started his football journey early, joining the youth team of Gamba Osaka in 2000. After playing for their youth squad for three years, he officially joined the main professional team in 2003.

Time at Gamba Osaka

For many years, Kimura was a backup goalkeeper at Gamba Osaka. He was behind experienced players like Naoki Matsuyo and Yosuke Fujigaya. This meant he didn't get to play in many matches at the beginning of his career.

His big moment came in December 2009 when he played in an Emperor's Cup semifinal match. This was his first official game for the senior team. In May 2012, he finally became the main goalkeeper for Gamba Osaka. However, his time as a regular player was short. He got injured in June of the same year, which caused him to lose his starting position.

Kimura continued to be part of the Gamba Osaka team until the end of the 2014 season. After that, he decided to retire from professional football.
