History of Auburn
Auburn was first settled by people in 1854. A few years later, in 1869, the settlement got its own post office. It was first called "Skinner."
Then, in 1877, the post office's name was changed to Auburn. The community officially became a city in 1947. The ZIP code for Auburn is 48611. This ZIP code is also used by the area around the city, called Williams Township.

Getting Around Auburn
Highways
- US 10 is a major highway that runs near Auburn. You can use it to travel west to Midland or east to Bay City.
It's good to know that the eastern exit for US 10 in Auburn only lets you get on or off if you are going east. The western exit lets you get on or off the highway whether you are going east or west.
Public Transportation
- Bay Metro offers a bus service, Route 4, that stops in Auburn. The bus stop is at the Auburn Square Shopping Plaza, located at 963 W Midland Rd. This bus route connects Auburn to other places like Midland, Delta College, Saginaw Valley State University, and Bay City.
