Aura Dione (born Maria Louise Joensen on January 21, 1985) is a famous singer and songwriter from Denmark. She is known for her unique pop and folk music.
In 2008, she released her first album, Columbine. It included the hit song "I Will Love You Monday (365)". This song became number one in Germany and its music video has been watched over 80 million times. The song was also certified platinum, which means it sold a very large number of copies.
Aura Dione has won many awards for her music. In 2011, she won the European Border Breaker Award, which is given to artists who are successful in countries other than their own. She is considered one of the most popular female singers in Denmark and Germany.

How She Started
Aura Dione was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her mother has Faroese and French roots, and her father has Danish and Spanish roots. Her parents loved music and sailed around the world with her when she was a child. This adventurous childhood introduced her to many different cultures.
She started writing her own songs when she was only 8 years old. When she was 7, her family settled on the Danish island of Bornholm, where she went to school. As a teenager, she moved to Australia. There, she was inspired by the music and culture of the Aboriginal people. This experience led her to write the song "Something From Nothing".
2007–2010: First Album and Big Success
Aura Dione became known in 2007 with her first single, "Something From Nothing". She also had a hit with the song "Song for Sophie". Both songs were on her first album, Columbine, released in 2008.
Her song "I Will Love You Monday" became a number one hit across Europe. This song made her famous in many countries.
2011–2015: Before the Dinosaurs Album
In 2011, Aura released her second album, Before the Dinosaurs. The first single from this album was "Geronimo". It went straight to number one on the music charts in Germany.
That same year, she won a European Border Breakers Award for her international success. Her next single, "Friends," also became a number one hit on German radio. This was her third song to reach the top of the radio charts.
2024: Competing for Eurovision
In 2024, Aura Dione competed in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024. This is the Danish music contest that chooses who will represent Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest. She performed her song "Mirrorball of Hope".
