Austin Jermaine Wiley (born January 8, 1999) is an American basketball player. He plays as a center for Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel. This team plays in the Israeli Premier League and the EuroCup. Before playing professionally, Austin played college basketball for the Auburn Tigers.

High School Basketball

Austin Wiley went to Spain Park High School in Hoover, Alabama. During his junior year (2015–16), he was amazing on the court. He scored about 27 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and blocked almost 3 shots per game.

Later, he moved to Florida. There, he attended Calusa Preparatory School and played basketball at The Conrad Academy in Orlando, Florida.

On November 9, 2016, Austin officially committed to play for Auburn University. His parents also played basketball at Auburn, so he was following in their footsteps! In December 2016, he decided to finish high school early. This meant he could start playing for Auburn sooner.

Austin was considered a top player in his high school class. He was ranked as one of the best recruits in the country.

College Basketball at Auburn

Freshman Year

Austin Wiley played his first game for the Auburn Tigers on December 18, 2016. He scored 9 points, got 3 rebounds, and blocked 2 shots. He played about 18 minutes per game during his freshman year. On average, he scored 8.8 points and grabbed 4.7 rebounds.

Eligibility Issues

Before the 2017–18 season began, Austin and a teammate could not play. This was because of some rules issues that needed to be sorted out. The NCAA (the group that makes rules for college sports) decided that Austin could play again for the 2018–19 season. This meant he missed the rest of the 2017–18 season.

Even though he couldn't play, Austin was invited to try out for the NBA Draft in 2018. But he chose to go back to Auburn to play his junior year.

Junior Year

In his junior year, Austin averaged 6.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. He also blocked 1.3 shots per game. He had some injuries that year and needed surgery after the season. Still, he was a key part of the Auburn team that made it to the Final Four for the first time ever!

Senior Year

Before his senior year, coaches thought Austin would be one of the best players in the SEC. He was also on a special list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, which goes to the best center in college basketball.

On February 12, 2020, Austin had an amazing game against Alabama. He scored 18 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds. He also blocked 5 shots in that game! As a senior, Austin averaged 10.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. He was the second-best rebounder in his conference.

Professional Basketball Career

After college, Austin started his professional career.

  • In January 2021, he joined MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in Germany.
  • Later that month, he moved to another German team, Gladiators Trier. He played well there, averaging 14.7 points and 8.8 rebounds in six games.
  • On July 17, 2023, Austin signed with Tofaş in Turkey.
  • On July 3, 2024, he signed with Hapoel Jerusalem in the Israeli Basketball Premier League.

Playing for Team USA

Austin has also played for the United States national team.

  • In 2016, he helped Team USA win a gold medal at the FIBA Under-17 World Championships in Spain.
  • In 2017, he won a bronze medal with Team USA at the FIBA Under-19 World Cup in Egypt.

Personal Life

Austin Wiley comes from a family of basketball players. His mother, Vickie Orr, was a member of the 1992 US Olympic team. Both his mother and father, Aubrey Wiley, played college basketball at Auburn University.
