Avoca is a small village in Steuben County, New York, United States. It's part of a larger area also called Avoca. In 2020, about 809 people lived there. You can find Avoca in the eastern part of its town, a bit northwest of the village of Bath.

History of Avoca Village
Avoca was one of the very first places settled in the area, around 1794. Before it was called Avoca, it had a couple of other names. It was first known as "Eight Mile Tree," and later as "Buchanan."
The village officially became "Avoca" in 1883. People believe the name "Avoca" comes from a beautiful place in Ireland. A story says that a young girl who loved the name wished for the village to be called Avoca before she passed away.

Avoca is located at coordinates 42°24′38″N 77°25′13″W / 42.41056°N 77.42028°W. This helps pinpoint its exact spot on a map.
Land and Water
The village covers about 1.2 square miles (which is about 3.1 square kilometers). Almost all of this area is land. There's only a tiny bit of water.
Roads and Rivers
A main road, New York State Route 415, runs through Avoca from north to south. Another road, County Road 8, comes into the northeast part of the village. Avoca is also near Interstate 390, a big highway.
The village is also on the Cohocton River. This river flows right through the area. A railway line, used by the B&H (Bath & Hammondsport) Rail Corp, also passes through Avoca.
