Avoca is a small town located in Steuben County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 1,996 people lived here.
The Town of Avoca also includes a village that shares the same name, Avoca. You can find the town in the northern part of Steuben County, a bit northwest of Bath, New York.

History of Avoca
The first people to settle in the Avoca area arrived around 1794. Before that, the land was home to the Seneca Indians. The town of Avoca was officially created in 1843. It was formed by taking parts from four other nearby towns: Bath, Cohocton, Howard, and Wheeler.
Geography of Avoca
Avoca covers a total area of about 36.3 square miles (94.0 square kilometers). Almost all of this area is land, with only a tiny bit (0.04 square miles or 0.1 square kilometers) being water.
Roads and Rivers
Several important roads pass through the town, making it easy to travel. These include Interstate 86, Interstate 390, and New York State Route 415.
The Conhocton River also flows through Avoca. It passes by small communities like Wallace, Bloomerville, and the village of Avoca itself.
Railroad History
For many years, railroads were a big part of Avoca's transportation. From the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s, different train lines served the town. Today, the B&H Rail Corp. still uses some of these old routes.
Avoca's Climate
Avoca has a climate where summers can be quite warm, and winters are cold. It's known as a hot-summer humid continental climate. This means you'll experience all four seasons here, with warm, often humid summers and snowy winters.

Communities and Locations in Avoca
The Town of Avoca includes several smaller communities and natural features:
- Avoca – This is the main village, located in the southeast part of the town along NY Route 415.
- Bloomerville – A small community (called a hamlet) found northwest of Avoca village on NY Route 415.
- Castle Creek – A stream that flows past Bloomerville and into the Cohocton River.
- Greenville – Another hamlet located in the western part of the town on County Road 6.
- Twelve Mile Creek – A stream that flows into the Cohocton River near Wallace.
- Wallace – A hamlet situated northwest of Avoca village, also on NY Route 415.
