The Avon was a large sailing ship built a long time ago. It was known for being quite fast! This ship traveled across oceans, carrying many people from India to new homes in different parts of the world, like Trinidad, Fiji, and Suriname.
The Ship's Story
The Avon was first named Dunolly. It was a big sailing ship made of iron. The ship was built in 1884 by a company called Charles Connell in Glasgow, Scotland. Its first owner was John Brown, also from Glasgow.
In 1890, another company, the Nourse Line, bought the ship. They changed its name to Avon. The new name came from the River Avon in the southwest of England.
