Axel Eduard Fischer was born on May 5, 1966. He is a German politician. He was a member of the CDU party. He served in the German parliament from 1998 to 2021. He represented the area of Karlsruhe-Land starting in 2002.

Early Life and Learning

From 1989 to 1995, Axel Fischer studied mechanical engineering. He attended the University of Karlsruhe. This is where he learned how machines work and are built.

Serving in Parliament

Axel Fischer started his work in the German parliament, called the Bundestag. From 1998 to 2009, he was part of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment. This committee looked at topics like schools, science, and new technologies.

After the 2009 elections, he joined the Budget Committee. He also became a member of the Audit Committee. These committees check how the government spends money. He helped review the budgets for the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. He also looked at the budget for the Federal Employment Agency.

He was also a member of the German Parliament's Berlin-Taipei Parliamentary Circle of Friends. This group helps build connections between Germany and Taiwan.

International Work

From 2010 to 2018, Axel Fischer was part of the German team for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). This group brings together lawmakers from many European countries. They work on human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

In 2009, he became the chairman of the Committee on Technology and Aerospace. He also worked as a special reporter for Armenia from 2011 to 2014. Later, in 2017, he was a reporter for Ukraine. From 2014 to 2018, he was one of the vice-presidents of the Assembly.

After the 2017 German federal election, the CDU/CSU group in parliament made some changes. They decided not to include Axel Fischer in Germany's new team for PACE.

In early 2020, Axel Fischer helped start a group of politicians. This group was made of members from the CDU, CSU, and FDP parties. They did not want a government that included the Green Party.

By March 2021, the leaders of the CDU/CSU group announced a change. Axel Fischer would be replaced as the head of the Audit Committee. Carsten Körber took over this role.

In October 2021, Axel Fischer did not run for the Bundestag again. This was during the 2021 German federal election.

Axel Fischer is married for the second time. He has six children. His father, Werner Fischer, used to be the President of the University of Applied Sciences in Karlsruhe. One of his brothers, Lutz Fischer-Lamprecht, is a politician and pastor in Switzerland.
