Ayax S.A. is a company located in Montevideo, Uruguay. Today, it is mainly a car dealer, which means it sells cars. For many years, Ayax S.A. also used to build cars, so it was known as an "automobile manufacturer."

The Story of Ayax S.A.

Ayax S.A. started its journey in 1945. When it first began, the company brought in various products, including machines for making textiles and paper. They also imported cars from well-known brands like Opel and Chevrolet.

In 1962, Emilio J. Curcio, who was the managing director, took full ownership of the company. A few years later, in 1968, Ayax S.A. stopped working with General Motors (the company behind Chevrolet and Opel). Instead, they started working with Fiat and Toyota vehicles.

While Ayax S.A. later stopped assembling Fiat cars, they continued to produce Toyota vehicles. This car-building activity continued for many years but eventually ended in the 1990s.

Ayax S.A. Today

In 2004, Ayax S.A. created a new company called Lucca Design. This company works as a supplier for Toyota Argentina, meaning it provides parts or services to Toyota's operations in Argentina.

Cars Assembled by Ayax S.A.

Ayax S.A. assembled several popular Toyota models in Uruguay.

• The Toyota Hilux was one of the first models they started assembling, beginning in 1971. The Hilux is a strong pickup truck.
• Later, starting in 1985, they also began assembling the Toyota Corolla. The Corolla is a very popular car model.
• Other versions of the Hilux, like pick-up trucks and double-cabin models (which have more space for passengers), were also assembled from 1985 onwards.
