Aye Mountain is a cool mountain in Canada. It sits right on the border between two provinces: Alberta and British Columbia. This mountain is also part of the Continental Divide. This is a special line where rivers on one side flow to the Pacific Ocean, and rivers on the other side flow to the Atlantic or Arctic oceans.

The mountain got its name in 1913. It was named by a group called the Interprovincial Boundary Survey. They were mapping the borders between the provinces.

What is Aye Mountain Made Of? (Geology)

Aye Mountain is made of a type of rock called sedimentary rock. This rock formed a very long time ago. It was created from tiny bits of sand, mud, and shells that settled at the bottom of ancient, shallow seas. Over millions of years, these layers got squished together and turned into solid rock.

  • Precambrian Period: This was a super old time, over 540 million years ago!
  • Jurassic Period: This was the time of the dinosaurs, about 200 to 145 million years ago.

Later, a huge event called the Laramide orogeny happened. This was when big forces inside the Earth pushed and folded the land. It made these old sedimentary rocks move. They were even pushed up and over younger rocks, forming the mountains we see today.

Weather on Aye Mountain (Climate)

The weather around Aye Mountain is known as a subarctic climate. This means it has very cold winters with lots of snow. The summers are usually mild, not too hot.

  • Cold Winters: Temperatures can easily drop below −20 degrees Celsius (that's −4 degrees Fahrenheit!).
  • Wind Chill: When the wind blows, it can make it feel even colder. This is called the wind chill factor. It can make the temperature feel like −30 degrees Celsius (−22 degrees Fahrenheit) or even colder! So, it's a very chilly place in winter.
