The Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society (which is Azərbaycan Qızıl Aypara Cəmiyyəti in Azerbaijani) is the biggest group in Azerbaijan that helps people. It's part of a much larger worldwide network called the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. This organization works to help people in need across the country.

What the Red Crescent Does

The Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society is a special group that doesn't aim to make money. It relies on volunteers who give their time to help others. This organization provides help and services to people without asking for anything in return. Its main goal is to "serve vulnerable people by mobilizing the capacity of Azerbaijan Red Crescent and the power of humanity." This means they use their resources and the kindness of people to support those who are struggling. Their main office is in Baku, the capital city.

How the Red Crescent Started

Early Beginnings in 1920

The Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society was first created on March 10, 1920. This happened when Azerbaijan was an independent country called the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Important leaders like Lieutenant General Aliagha Shikhlinski and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fatali Khan Khoyski helped start it.

Changes During Soviet Times

Later in 1920, Azerbaijan became part of Soviet Russia. Because of this, the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society stopped working on its own for a while. It became a part of the Russian Red Cross Society.

But in October 1922, the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society was started again. This happened because the government of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic made a special rule. It then worked as part of a bigger group called the Soviet League of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Becoming Independent Again

In 1991, the Soviet Union broke apart. Azerbaijan became an independent country once more. At this time, the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society also became fully independent. It started to follow international rules for Red Cross and Red Crescent groups around the world.
