The Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society (which is called Azərbaycan Qızıl Aypara Cəmiyyəti in Azerbaijani) is the biggest group in Azerbaijan that helps people. It's part of a much larger worldwide family called the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. This society works to help people who are in need, especially during tough times.

What They Do: Their Mission

The Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society is a special kind of organization. It's not-for-profit, which means it doesn't try to make money. Instead, it relies on volunteers who give their time to help others. They offer help and services without asking for anything in return.

Their main goal is to "serve vulnerable people." This means they focus on helping those who are most at risk or in difficult situations. They do this by using the skills and kindness of people in Azerbaijan and around the world. Their main office is in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan.

A Look Back: Their History

The Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society was first started on March 10, 1920. This happened when Azerbaijan was known as the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Important leaders like Lieutenant General Aliagha Shikhlinski and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fatali Khan Khoyski helped make it happen.

However, Azerbaijan's history was complicated. In April 1920, the country became part of Soviet Russia. Because of this, the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society stopped working on its own for a short time. It became a part of the Russian Red Cross Society.

But in October 1922, the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society was brought back! This happened with a special order from the government of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. It then worked as part of a bigger group called the Soviet League of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Later, in 1991, a big change happened. The Soviet Union broke apart, and the Republic of Azerbaijan became an independent country again. With this new independence, the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society also became fully independent. It now follows international rules for humanitarian organizations, just like other Red Cross and Red Crescent societies around the world.
