B-Daman facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

B-Daman (ビーダマン, Bīdaman) is a fun marble-shooting toy that comes from Japan. It was created by a company called Takara.

A B-Daman toy looks like a small person, and it has a special spot in the middle where you load a marble. You can use special B-Daman marbles or even other marbles that are the same size. What makes B-Daman toys awesome is that you can change them! You can add different parts to make your B-Daman shoot marbles more accurately, with more power, or even faster. Each B-Daman also has a unique trick or feature.

In English-speaking countries, the marbles used with Battle B-Daman toys are often called "B-Dama." But in Japan, they are simply known as "marbles" (Japanese: ビー玉; biidama), which is where the name "B-Daman" comes from!

The History of B-Daman Toys

B-Daman toys have been around for a while, and different companies have helped bring them to players worldwide.

How to Play B-Daman Games

There are many exciting ways to play with B-Daman! Depending on the game, the rules can be different. Hasbro's "Battle B-Daman" tournament set included these fun games:

  • Direct Hit Battle (DHB): In this game, two players shoot their B-Daman at each other. The goal is to hit your opponent's B-Daman in a special spot. If you hit it, a part might pop out or block their shooter!
  • Tag Team DHB: This is like Direct Hit Battle, but you play with teammates. You can switch with your partner when it's safe.
  • B-Daman Invasion: Players shoot a special puck across an arena. The goal is to push the puck all the way to your opponent's side. In Japan, this game is known as "Battle Hockey."
  • Ultimate Strike: This is a classic game where you try to knock down as many target pins as you can with just one shot.
  • Shoot the Gap: The challenge here is to shoot your marble between standing target pins without hitting any of them.
  • B-Daman Assault: In this fast-paced game, you have 30 seconds to flip over your opponent's gates by shooting them.
  • B-Daman Blast: You get 6 marbles to try and flip over 4 gates.
  • Hard Target: This game involves shooting a battle pin that is hidden behind target barricades.
  • B-DaChallenge: Each player sets up a tricky shot. If you make your shot, your opponent has to try and do the exact same shot. If they fail, you win!

B-Daman Tournaments

Just like other popular toys, B-Daman has tournaments where players can compete. Hasbro used to host tournaments in Canada every summer. In Japan, Takara holds many tournaments throughout the year, similar to how they do for Beyblade.

Different B-Daman Series

B-Daman toys have changed and evolved over the years, leading to many different series.

  • Bomberman B-Daman Bakugaiden Series: The very first B-Daman toys came out in 1993. They were designed after the popular video game character Bomberman, so they were called "Bomberman B-Daman."
    • Bakugaiden (1995): These toys were put together from parts that looked like old armor. This design later inspired the Battle B-Daman series.
    • Bakugaiden III (1997): A cool feature of these B-Daman was that they could transform into vehicles!
    • Bomberman B-Daman Bakugaiden IV (1998): Starting with this series, the toys were sold in pieces that you could mix and match. This was also when a TV show for B-Daman began.
  • Battle B-Daman Series: This series started with a manga (comic book) in 2003 and then a toy line. An anime TV show followed in 2004. Battle B-Daman introduced the "Zero System," which made it easy to swap parts and customize your B-Daman even more.
  • Crash B-Daman Series: Released in late 2005, Crash B-Daman focused a lot on shooting power. These toys had pistol-like grips and triggers, making them look a bit like guns. They could even use some parts from Battle B-Daman. There were about 40 different Crash B-Daman models made.
    • Crash Series: These models had simple tricks like special cores. Only barrels and magazines from older Cartridge B-Daman toys could be used with them.
    • Synchronized Weapon System Series: This series added a cool trick where you could fire a Crash weapon from the handle of the toy. It also brought in more complex features.
  • B-Daman Crossfire: This is a newer series of B-Daman that has both toys and an anime show. It's quite different from the older B-Daman toys. The main character in the story is a boy named Riki. B-Daman Crossfire was later followed by B-Daman Fireblast.
  • B-Daman Fireblast: This is the latest series in the B-Daman Crossfire world (known as Cross Fight B-Daman eS in Japan). It introduced exciting "emblem charge attacks" into the game. It's the show that came after B-Daman Crossfire.
