A Look at Bad Herrenalb's History

The town of Bad Herrenalb grew up around a place called Alba Dominorum. This was a Cistercian monastery. It was first built in the year 1148. Later, the monastery was closed down during the Reformation.

How Bad Herrenalb Became a Health Resort

In 1841, a doctor named J. Weiss started a cold water treatment center. This center later became a water therapy institute. It also helped people with nervous problems. Another leader, Councilor Dr. Mermagen, helped it grow even more.

Since 1954, Herrenalb has been officially known as a "health resort." This means it is a place where people go to relax and get healthy. In 1971, workers drilled a deep well, about 600 meters down. They found a water source rich in minerals. Because of this special water, Herrenalb officially added the word "Bad" to its name. "Bad" means "bath" in German. This change happened on July 26, 1971.

Growing the Town

The town of Bad Herrenalb grew bigger in the 1970s. On January 1, 1972, the area of Rotensol became part of Bad Herrenalb. Then, on February 1, 1972, Neusatz also joined the town. Finally, on January 1, 1975, Bernbach was also added to the municipality.
