Badin is a small town in Stanly County, North Carolina, in the United States. In 2020, about 2,024 people lived there. It is known for its French-inspired nickname and its location near the Uwharrie Mountains.

History of Badin
Badin has several important historical places. These sites are special because they are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are recognized for their historical value.
Some of these important places include the Badin Historic District and the West Badin Historic District. Also, the Narrows Dam and Power Plant Complex is a key historical site. It shows how electricity was made in the past.
Geography of Badin
Badin is located at the southern end of Badin Lake. This lake is a reservoir, which is a large, artificial lake used to store water. It was created by building a dam on the Yadkin River.
North Carolina Highway 740 goes right through the town. Badin is also close to other towns. Albemarle is about four miles to the southwest. New London is about six miles to the northwest.
The town covers an area of about 1.81 square miles (4.7 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

Economy of Badin
For many years, the main employer in Badin was a company called ALCOA. This company had a very large factory in Badin. However, ALCOA closed its factory in 2010. Most of the workers were laid off in 2007.
Even though the factory closed, Alcoa Power Generating still works in the area. They make electricity using four dams nearby. The company is also trying to find new ways to use the old factory site.
