Sultan Sir Badlishah ibni Almarhum Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah was the 27th Sultan of Kedah. He ruled from 1943 to 1958. He became Sultan after his father, Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim, passed away.
Sultan Badlishah was also the older half-brother of Tunku Abdul Rahman. Tunku Abdul Rahman later became the first Prime Minister of Malaysia. Before becoming Sultan, Badlishah served as a regent for Kedah from 1937 to 1943. This meant he ruled in place of the Sultan.
During World War II, he was removed from power by the Imperial Japanese Army in 1943. However, he was put back on the throne in 1945. This happened after Japan surrendered and the Japanese occupation of Malaya ended.
