Bahawalpur was a special type of state in the Punjab region of what is now Pakistan. It was located along the southern banks of the Sutlej and Indus Rivers. The main city and capital of this state was also called Bahawalpur.

In 1941, about 1.3 million people lived in Bahawalpur. The state covered a large area of 45,911 square kilometers (about 17,494 square miles). It was divided into three main areas: Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan, and Bahawalnagar.

The state of Bahawalpur was started in 1690 by a ruler named Bahadur Khan II. Later, in 1833, another ruler, Nawab Mohammad Bahawal Khan III, signed an important agreement with the British. This agreement made sure that the Nawab of Bahawalpur would remain independent from British rule. Bahawalpur decided to join Pakistan on 7 October 1947. The state then became part of the larger province of West Pakistan on 14 October 1955.

Languages Spoken

The main language spoken in Bahawalpur was Seraiki, sometimes also called Riasti. People also commonly spoke Urdu and Punjabi.
