History of Baileyville
For a long time, the town's economy relied on its mills. These mills, located in Woodland, used water power from the Saint Croix River. They processed wooden logs and pulpwood that were floated down the river.
These mills, especially a large paper mill, were important for the area. They were connected to the national train system. This allowed them to send paper products out and bring supplies in. While some rail service has changed, a special train line still connects Woodland to St. Stephen, New Brunswick. This line helps ship pulp and paper to Saint John.
