Bali Mumba's Football Journey
Bali Mumba started his football career at a young age. He has played for several clubs, showing his skills in different leagues.
Starting at Sunderland
Bali Mumba joined the Sunderland youth team in 2010. He played there until 2018. On the very last day of the 2017–18 EFL Championship season, Bali made his first appearance for the senior team. This was against Wolverhampton Wanderers. He came on as a substitute in the 87th minute. The team captain, John O'Shea, even gave Bali his captain's armband for those last few minutes. This made Bali the youngest ever captain for Sunderland, even if it was only for a short time.
In November 2018, Bali signed his first professional contract with Sunderland. This meant he was officially a paid player for the club. In March 2020, he went on loan to South Shields. He scored a goal in his second game for them.
Moving to Norwich City
In July 2020, Bali Mumba moved to Norwich City. He signed a four-year contract with the club. On August 21, 2021, Bali played his first game in the Premier League. This was a big step for him, even though Norwich lost 5–0 to Manchester City.
Loan to Peterborough United
On January 6, 2022, Bali joined Peterborough United on loan. They were also in the EFL Championship league. He played for them for the rest of the 2021–22 season. Bali had a great start, scoring the winning goal in his very first game. This was in an FA Cup match against Bristol Rovers.
Loan to Plymouth Argyle
On July 14, 2022, Bali Mumba went on loan again. This time, he joined Plymouth Argyle, a club in EFL League One. He played for them during the 2022–23 season. Bali quickly became a key player for Plymouth. His strong performances helped the team reach the top of the league. He even won the EFL Young Player of the Month award for September 2022.
Bali played 47 games for Plymouth Argyle during his loan spell. He scored eight goals. His efforts helped Argyle win the League One title. They also reached the final of the 2022–23 EFL Trophy, where they finished as runners-up. Bali started in that final game at Wembley Stadium. He often played as a wing-back, helping both in defense and attack.
At the end of the season, Bali received many awards. The Plymouth Argyle fans voted him their Young Player of the Season. His teammates also chose him as their Player of the Season. He was also honored at the EFL Awards as the Young Player of the Season for the entire division.
Joining Plymouth Argyle Permanently
Because of his amazing performance on loan, Bali Mumba signed a permanent contract with Plymouth Argyle. This happened on July 21, 2023. He signed a four-year deal with the club. The transfer fee was reported to be around £1 million. This was a record-equalling fee for Plymouth Argyle at the time.
On August 5, 2023, Bali scored a goal in his second debut for the club. This was in a 3–1 win against Huddersfield Town in the EFL Championship. He continued to be an important player for Plymouth Argyle.
Playing for England
Bali Mumba has also played for England's national youth teams. He has represented his country at different age levels. He played for the England under-16, under-17, under-18, and under-19 teams. Bali's parents are from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
