Ballwil is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Lucerne. Ballwil is part of the Hochdorf district.

History of Ballwil

Ballwil is a very old place. It was first mentioned in official records way back in the year 924. Back then, it was known as Paldiwilare.

Ballwil is nestled in the beautiful Seetal valley. You can find it just south of Lake Baldegg.

The municipality covers an area of about 8.7 square kilometers (about 3.4 square miles). A large part of this land, about 76.7%, is used for farming. This means there are lots of fields and pastures. About 11.7% of the area is covered by forests. The remaining 11.3% is where buildings and roads are located.

Ballwil is also on the western side of Mount Lindenberg. It is close to the Reuss River. The main village of Ballwil includes many smaller communities called hamlets. Some of the biggest hamlets are Gibelflüh, Gerlingen, Wald, Wissenwegen, and Mettenwil.

Neighboring Towns

Ballwil shares its borders with several other towns. If you start from the north and go clockwise, its neighbors are Hohenrain, Sins (which is in a different canton called Aargau), Inwil, Eschenbach, and Hochdorf.
