Bandipore district (also spelled as Bandipora or Bandipur) is a special area in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. It's one of 20 districts in this region. The main town and headquarters of the district is also called Bandipore.
Bandipore is a beautiful place located near the tall, snowy peaks of Harmukh mountains. It overlooks the peaceful Wular Lake, which is the largest freshwater lake in India. Many smart people and thinkers have come from this area.
The district is known for its lovely tourist spots. These include Wular Vintage Park, Athwatoo, and the stunning Gurez valley. Before 1947, Bandipore was a very important place for trade and learning in Kashmir. This district was created in 2007 from the older Baramulla district. It shares borders with Kupwara district to the north, Baramulla district to the west, and Kargil district in Ladakh and Ganderbal district to the east. Bandipore district covers an area of about 398 square kilometers. In 2011, about 392,232 people lived here.

How Bandipore is Divided
The Bandipore district is split into seven smaller areas called tehsils. These are Ajas, Aloosa, Bandipore, Sumbal, Hajin, Gurez, and Tulail.
For elections, the district has three special areas called Vidhan Sabha constituencies: Gurez, Bandipore, and Sonawari. All of these are part of the larger Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency.
The district also has twelve community development blocks. These blocks help with local projects and development. They are Aloosa, Arin, Baktoor, Bandipore, Bonkoot, Ganastan, Gurez, Hajin, Naidkhai, Nowgam, Sumbal, and Tulail.
