Barbara Bestor, born in 1966, is a talented American architect. She lives and works in Los Angeles, California. She started her own company, Bestor Architecture, in 1992. Barbara Bestor is known for designing cool buildings like the Beats Electronics Headquarters. She also designed Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea shops. She even helped update a famous house called Silvertop. In 2017, she became part of a special group of architects called the AIA College of Fellows.

Becoming an Architect

Barbara Bestor grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her dad was an anthropologist, who studies human societies. Her mom worked at a college. Barbara started learning about architecture early. She interned with Cambridge Seven Associates while in college. She also studied abroad in London at the Architectural Association School. She graduated from Harvard University in 1987. Later, she earned a master's degree in architecture. This was from the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles in 1992.

Designing Buildings and Teaching

Barbara Bestor began her architecture career in Los Angeles in 1992. Early on, she worked on many homes in the Los Angeles area. She also helped design the Actors' Gang theater in Hollywood. In 2001, she taught architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. She returned to Los Angeles in 2002. She has also taught architecture at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Bestor has taught at the Woodbury University School of Architecture. There, she also leads the Julius Shulman Institute. She was the first leader of the graduate program. In 2014, she helped create an exhibit. It was about the graphic designer Deborah Sussman. Barbara Bestor has also given a talk at TEDx. In 2017, an exhibit she designed opened. It was at the Palm Springs Art Museum.

Bestor has designed many private homes. These are in places like Echo Park and Santa Barbara. She has also designed stores and restaurants. You can find her designs in Los Angeles, New York City, and Tokyo. In 2011, she won an award for her design of Pitfire Pizza in Los Angeles. She was also nominated for a James Beard Foundation Award for it. Her "Floating Bungalow" house was shown in a 2013 art exhibit. In 2015, the Beats By Dre Headquarters won a big award. In 2017, two new projects opened. These were the Ashes & Diamonds Winery and the Silverlake Conservatory of Music. Bestor has also worked on new housing ideas for Los Angeles.
