History of Bardonia
Bardonia got its name from the Bardon brothers. John, Phillip, and Conrad Bardon came from Bavaria in 1849. They started several businesses in the area.
A train station, called the Bardonia railroad station, opened here in 1875. However, this station no longer exists today.

The community covers a total area of about 2.9 square miles (7.5 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 2.6 square miles (6.7 square kilometers). The rest is water, which is about 0.3 square miles (0.8 square kilometers).

Getting Around Bardonia
Bardonia used to have a train station, the Bardonia railway station. This station was part of the New Jersey and New York Railroad system. Train service stopped in 1939, and the tracks were removed. The old station building was taken down in 2014 to build a CVS store.
Today, Bardonia does not have its own train service. The closest train station is about 2.5 miles away in Nanuet. You can also use Rockland Coaches buses, which connect Bardonia to New York City and other places in Midtown Manhattan.
