Where is Barnum Located?
Barnum is in a beautiful part of Minnesota. It covers an area of about 1.01 square miles (2.62 km2), and all of this area is land. The city is located about five miles northeast of Moose Lake. It is also about 33 miles southwest of Duluth, a larger city.
Life in Barnum
The Carlton County Fair
Barnum is famous for being the home of the Carlton County Fair. This exciting event happens every year in August. The fair first started way back in 1890!
The Carlton County Agricultural and Industrial Society runs the fairgrounds. When you visit, you can see many fun things. There are shows with farm animals, displays of crops, and thrilling carnival rides. You can also enjoy live music and watch a demolition derby, where old cars crash into each other.
One special exhibit is the potato path. It shows off the big machines used by farmers to plant and harvest potatoes. The Carlton County Historical Society also has buildings at the fairgrounds. These include a large building for old farm machinery and a historic log cabin.
