Barrie Stanton Ingham (born February 10, 1932 – died January 23, 2015) was an English actor. He appeared in many TV shows, movies, and plays. He was known for his strong voice and acting skills.
Early Life
Barrie Ingham was born in 1932 in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. His parents were Irene and Harold Ingham. He went to Heath Grammar School. After school, he became an officer in the Royal Artillery, which is part of the British Army.
Acting Career
Ingham started his acting career in Manchester with the Library Theatre Company. Later, he moved to London to act at famous theaters like The Old Vic. He also performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre.
Barrie Ingham acted in over 200 British and American movies and TV shows. He played the main character, Robin Hood, in the 1967 movie A Challenge for Robin Hood. In 1968, he played Sejanus in the TV series The Caesars. He also appeared in The Power Game in 1969. In 1971, Ingham starred in the series Hine, playing an arms dealer.
He also had a successful career on Broadway, which is famous for its musicals in New York City. He starred in Copperfield. In 1973, he acted alongside Angela Lansbury in the London production of Gypsy: A Musical Fable. A big role for him was playing King Pellinore in the musical Camelot from 1981 to 1982.
Many kids might know his voice from Disney's 1986 movie, The Great Mouse Detective. In this animated film, he was the voice of Basil of Baker Street, the clever mouse detective.
Later, Ingham was part of the final cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Aspects of Love on Broadway. His last Broadway show was Jekyll & Hyde, where he played Sir Danvers Carew. He started in the show in 1997 and stayed for four years. He also appeared in the 2001 movie version of the musical.
Ingham also acted in Australia. He made a guest appearance on the popular TV show Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1989. He was in the episode called "Up the Long Ladder".
Personal Life
Barrie Ingham married Tarne Phillips Ingham in 1957. They had four children together.
Death
Barrie Ingham passed away on January 23, 2015, at his home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was almost 83 years old. He was survived by his wife, Tarne, and their four children.
