Barry Atsma was born on December 29, 1972. His birthplace was Bromley, in South London, England. His father often traveled for work. Because of this, Barry lived in many different countries as a child. He spent time in England, Greece, Brazil, and The Netherlands.
He first started studying law at university. But he soon realized his true passion was acting. He then switched to studying drama. He attended the Utrecht School of the Arts in the Netherlands. He finished his studies and graduated in 1996.

Barry Atsma has a family with four daughters. He has two daughters, Zoë and Charley, from a past relationship. He is currently with actress Noortje Herlaar. They also have two daughters together, named Bobbi and Sam.
