Bartine Hot Springs are natural warm pools found in the desert of Nevada. They are also known as Bartine Ranch Hot Springs. These hot springs are located in the Antelope Valley. You can find them about 40 kilometers (25 miles) northwest of the town of Eureka.

History of Bartine Hot Springs

The Bartine Ranch, where these hot springs are located, is named after Frederick "Fred" Bartine. He was born in Finland in 1888 and moved to the United States in 1901. Fred Bartine settled in Nevada and became an important person in the area.

Who Was Fred Bartine?

Fred Bartine owned the ranch and the hot springs. He also owned the Ruby Hill Water Works, which supplied water to a nearby mining town. He had a service station and even some mining claims. From 1924 to 1934, Fred Bartine served as a local leader. He was a Eureka County Commissioner.

Developing the Ranch

Fred Bartine worked hard to develop his property. He improved 640 acres of land. He also drilled three special wells called artesian wells. These wells bring water up from deep underground without needing a pump.

Where Are the Springs Located?

Bartine Hot Springs are in a large desert area called the Great Basin Desert. This region is known for its many mountains and valleys. It is part of the Basin and Range Province.

Surroundings of the Springs

The hot springs are on a big mound of rock called Hot Spring Hill. This mound is made of tufa, which is a type of rock formed by minerals from the spring water. Snow-capped mountains surround the area. These include the Monitor, Simpson Park, and Mountain Boy ranges.

Soaking Pools

People have built special pools at the springs for soaking. One is a four-foot square concrete box. There is also a heart-shaped stone pool. About 4 miles southeast, you can find Bartine Warm Spring and a cold spring.

There are four different hot spring sources on Hot Spring Hill. These are the places where the warm water comes out of the ground.

Water Temperature

The hot mineral water from these springs is quite warm. Its temperature ranges from 102°F to 108°F (39°C to 42°C). This makes them perfect for a warm soak. An artesian well, similar to the ones Fred Bartine drilled, is located about three miles away near the Bartine Ranch.
