Bayside was founded in 1908. Two people named E.O. Burton and A.H. Danforth started the town.

Bayside is located on the west side of Copano Bay. This bay is a part of the Gulf of Mexico. The town is also close to where the Aransas River meets the bay. This small river forms the border between Refugio County and San Patricio County.
