Beard is a small, unincorporated community located in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county. Beard is situated right by the Greenbrier River, about 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest of a town called Hillsboro.
Why is it Called Beard?
The community got its name from a man named Josiah Beard. He owned a local mill, which was an important business back then for grinding grain and other products.
