A Look at Beatriz's History
Beatriz has an interesting history! Long ago, after a big event called the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened in 1898 with something called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the U.S. This means it's part of the U.S. but has its own special government.
In 1899, the U.S. government counted the people living in Puerto Rico. They found that Beatriz and a nearby barrio called Guavate had a combined population of 853 people.
