A Look at Guavate's Past
After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This made Puerto Rico an "unincorporated territory" of the U.S.
In 1899, the U.S. government counted the people living in Puerto Rico. They found that Guavate and a nearby area called Beatriz had a total of 853 people.

Exploring Guavate: A Tourist Hotspot
Guavate is famous for its "pork highway." This is a part of Puerto Rico Highway 184 where you can find many restaurants called lechoneras. They specialize in delicious slow-roasted pork, known as lechon.
In 2019, Guavate was featured in the "Discover Puerto Rico" tourism campaign. It was highlighted as a must-see place because of its tasty pork dishes, pleasant weather, and amazing views of the Sierra de Cayey mountains. The beautiful Carite State Forest is also very close by.
