Beatriz is a special area, or barrio, located in the town of Cidra, Puerto Rico. Think of a barrio like a neighborhood or a district within a bigger town. In 2010, about 3,095 people lived in Beatriz. It's a part of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, which is a commonwealth of the United States.
History of Beatriz
After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This made Puerto Rico an unincorporated territory of the U.S., which means it's connected to the U.S. but isn't a state.
In 1899, the United States Department of War did a count of all the people in Puerto Rico, called a census. They found that Beatriz barrio, along with a nearby area called Arenas barrio, had a total of 997 people living there. Over the years, the population of Beatriz has changed, as you can see in the chart below.
