Beckett Point is a narrow piece of land that sticks out into Discovery Bay in Washington, United States. It's like a small sandy arm reaching into the water. This special place is about ten miles from the city of Port Townsend. It is located in Jefferson County, Washington.
The Beckett Point Fisherman's Club owns this land. They lease out about 100 homes there. Many families have lived here for a long time. They enjoy fishing for salmon, crab, and shrimp.
Beckett Point is also home to many different plants. There are about 81 types of plants found here. It even has a rare piece of the original prairie ecosystem. This is a special type of grassland that used to cover much of the region.
History of Beckett Point
Beckett Point got its name in 1792. It was named by a famous explorer named George Vancouver. He explored many parts of the Pacific Northwest. Vancouver also named other places in the area. For example, he named Discovery Bay, Washington after his ship. He named Puget Sound and Whidbey Island after members of his crew. He even named Vancouver Island after himself! It is very likely that someone named "Beckett" was part of his crew.
The Beckett Point Fisherman's Club has owned Beckett Point since 1939. When they first started, there were only 22 homes. The community was first built as a place for people to spend their summers. Today, many people live there all year long.
