Belle Mina is a small, unincorporated community in Alabama, United States. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own city government. It's located in the southeastern part of Limestone County. In 2020, about 113 people lived there.
The community is only about one mile from the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, U.S.A., Inc factory. This factory is special because it's the only place in North America that makes the Corolla Cross car model. Belle Mina has many homes, a volunteer fire department, and a post office. It is also home to the South Limestone Cotton Mill.
History of Belle Mina
The name "Belle Mina" comes from a large farm, also called a plantation. This plantation belonged to Thomas Bibb, who was the second governor of Alabama. The original name of the plantation was "Belle Manor." Over time, because of how people in the South pronounced it, the spelling changed to "Belle Mina."
The word "belle" comes from French and means "beautiful." The plantation was located along the Southern Railroad. There was a train station right near the plantation. A post office was officially opened in Belle Mina in 1878. The community also served as the train stop for the nearby town of Mooresville.
