History of Bellechester
Bellechester was first established in 1877. Its name comes from its location in Chester Township. The word belle is French and means "beautiful," so the name means "Beautiful Chester."
A post office opened in the Wabasha County part of the city in 1879. In the past, Bellechester was an important place for shipping pottery clay by railway.
