Belmont Village is a friendly neighborhood located in the West Philadelphia part of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Its zip code is 19131.

Long ago, in the early 1900s, this area was called Blockley. When builders first started creating homes here, it became part of a larger region. This region now includes areas like Overbrook, Wynnfield, Belmont Village, and Wynnefield Heights. In Belmont Village, you can see homes with cool stone fronts on Lenape Road. On Conshohocken Avenue, nearby, some houses have a fancy Spanish Revival style.

In the early 1900s, a person named John McClatchy helped design many Philadelphia neighborhoods, including Belmont Village. He advertised Belmont Village as being in Bala, and it is close to the Bala train station. However, it is actually inside the city's Belmont Village area.

Where is Belmont Village Located?

Belmont Village is surrounded by some clear borders. To the north, you'll find City Avenue. To the south, it touches Fairmount Park. The Bala Golf Club is to its west, and Belmont Avenue is to the east.

The neighborhood is separated from its western neighbor, Wynnefield, by the Bala Golf Club and the SEPTA Cynwyd Line train tracks. To the east, Belmont Village is separated from Wynnefield Heights by the Belmont Water Treatment Facility. Fairmount Park forms its southern edge, and City Avenue is its northern border.

According to information from 2019, the total population of the 19131 zip code, which includes Belmont Village and nearby areas, was about 44,723 people. Slightly more than half of the residents are female. The community is very diverse, with many different backgrounds. Most residents are African-American, but there are also many Caucasian and Asian/Pacific Islander people living here. A small percentage of the community is Hispanic/Latino.

How to Get Around Belmont Village

Belmont Village is easy to get to! You can reach Center City, which is the downtown area, by using West River Drive. The SEPTA Cynwyd Line train also helps people travel. The Bala Station is right across the street from the northern part of Belmont Village.

The neighborhood is also close to several big roads. These include Route 1, I-76, and I-95. These roads make it simple to travel to other parts of the city and beyond.

Learning in Belmont Village

Students in Belmont Village attend schools that are part of the Philadelphia School District. The local elementary school is William B. Mann Elementary School. In 2010, a group called Mastery Charter Schools took over running Mann Elementary. It still serves the neighborhood, and it was one of Mastery's first elementary schools.

The high school for students in this area is Overbrook High School.

Belmont Village is also close to several private schools for younger and older students. One example is Friends' Central School on City Avenue. There are also two colleges near Belmont Village: the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) to the east and Saint Joseph's University to the west.

Fun Places to Visit in Belmont Village

Along the northern edge of Belmont Village is the City Avenue Business District. This area has many stores and restaurants where you can shop and eat. The Bala-Cynwyd Shopping Center is just across City Avenue from Belmont Village. It has a department store, a big grocery store, and more shops and restaurants.

To the south of Belmont Village is Fairmount Park. This huge park has cool places to visit like the Carousel House and the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, where you can see shows. Nearby East Parkside is home to the famous Philadelphia Zoo and the Please Touch Museum, which is great for younger kids.

Every July, a big event called the Greek Picnic happens in a nearby part of Fairmount Park. Over 100,000 people come to celebrate African-American college fraternities and sororities.
