Benjamin Quran Dupree, born on January 29, 1992, is an American football player. He played for the Panasonic Impulse team in Japan's X-League. Before that, he played college football for The Citadel Bulldogs. In high school, he was named Pennsylvania's best player in his senior year. He was only 5 feet 8 inches tall. This made him the shortest quarterback in NCAA Division I college football while he was at The Citadel.
Early Life and High School Football
Ben Dupree was born in Philadelphia. He moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, when he was young. He finished high school in 2010 at Susquehanna Township High School. In high school, he ran for over 3,700 yards. He also passed for more than 4,800 yards. He scored 80 touchdowns in total.
He gained over 8,500 total yards in his high school career. This put him just above another famous player, Terrelle Pryor, in the state records. After his last year of high school, he was named the best player in Pennsylvania. He was also chosen for the all-state first team. Ben also played basketball very well. He scored over 1,000 points during his basketball career. His 2007-08 basketball team won 32 games and reached the state championship.
College Football Career
Ben Dupree was recruited to play for The Citadel. This college is located in Charleston, SC. He was recruited by head coach Kevin Higgins. Dupree was expected to play as a triple option quarterback. This means the quarterback can run, hand off, or pass the ball.
During his first year, Dupree played both slotback and quarterback. He started three games as quarterback and won two of them. This helped him become the main starting quarterback for the rest of his college time. His second year was not as good, and the team finished with four wins and seven losses.
Dupree's third year was the best season for The Citadel since 1992. The team won seven games and lost four. They even beat bigger schools like Appalachian State and Georgia Southern. Dupree was named the Southern Conference player of the week after playing against Appalachian State. In that game, he ran for 180 yards and scored two touchdowns. He also passed for 56 yards.
His final year in college was statistically better than his junior year. He ran for over 1,000 yards. He also led the Southern Conference with 18 rushing touchdowns. This included a school record of five rushing touchdowns in one game against Old Dominion. During his college career, Dupree was named Southern Conference player of the week three times. Playing in Japan's X-League
In 2015, Ben Dupree signed a contract to play professional football in Japan. He joined the X-League, which is Japan's top American football league. He signed with the Panasonic Impulse team. They changed his position from a triple option quarterback to a running back.
In his first year, Dupree was chosen for the 2015 All X-League Team. He helped the Panasonic Impulse win the X-League Championship. They beat the Fujitsu Frontiers in the Tokyo Dome. After that, the Panasonic Impulse team went on to win the Rice Bowl. They won this game in front of 31,000 fans.
