Climbing Ben Stack: A Great Adventure
Ben Stack is known as a good mountain for walkers and hikers. It's not too difficult to climb because of its height and how easy it is to get to from the main road. Many people enjoy walking up this mountain.
Popular Routes to the Top
The most common way to climb Ben Stack is from the southeast side. This path follows a long ridge called Leathad na Stioma. It's a steady climb that offers great views.
Another way to reach the summit is from the northwestern side. This route starts near Lochstack Lodge and is a bit steeper. Since both starting points are on the A838 road, some people like to walk up one way and come down the other. This lets them see different parts of the mountain.
A Sad Day on Ben Stack
On August 6, 2005, something sad happened on Ben Stack. Robin Cook, who used to be a very important politician in the U.K. (he was the Foreign Secretary, meaning he handled the country's relationships with other nations), was walking down from the top of the mountain. He suddenly became unwell and passed away.
