Benavente is a small area, like a neighborhood, in the town of Hormigueros, Puerto Rico. It is known as a barrio. In 2010, only 40 people lived there, making it a very quiet place. Benavente is located on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States in 1898. This happened after the Spanish–American War, when Spain gave up control of the island. Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory, which means it belongs to the U.S. but is not a state.
In 1899, the U.S. government took a count of all the people living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that Benavente and a nearby barrio called Lavadero had a combined population of 1,047 people.
